The Causeway School announced this week the launch of the Causeway Academy of Performing Arts in partnership with the Theatre Workshop.
Both the school and the theatre group say the new academy will provide “exciting opportunities” for development in the performing arts through expert tuition from Theatre Workshop staff.
It will also see the Theatre Workshop being based at the Causeway and making use of the facilities at the school.
The Causeway Academy of Performing Arts will not only provide current Causeway students with expert coaching in the various fields of the arts but also give a chance for budding performers in years 4 and 5 from local primary schools to join the academy.
The primary school sessions will start with a roadshow visit to schools by the tutors from the Theatre Workshop, which has an outstanding record of success in working with young people in the performing arts including lead roles in television series such as Lucy Beale from EastEnders, commercials for big brands like Sainsbury’s and Nintendo and appearances in West End shows Matilda and Billy Elliot.
Headteacher Gene Payne said, “Following the success of our football academy, we are very excited about this latest partnership.
“The Theatre Workshop has an excellent history of working with young people in performing arts and the partnership will provide young people in the area an opportunity to achieve their dreams.”
A Theatre Workshop spokesperson said, “Eastbourne’s most talented youngsters will be given an opportunity in performing arts education in the area.”
