Wardens are not able to issue tickets to motorists flouting the rules in parts of Gildredge Road, Station Parade, Terminus Road and Cornfield Road because the county council’s improvement scheme, which includes the painting of yellow lines, is not yet complete – meaning the traffic regulation order cannot be enforced.

Some residents and motorists have recently complained about the non-existent restrictions and how the situation has become dangerous for road users.

An East Sussex County Council spokesman said, “We will be completing lining work in the town centre as soon as possible and anticipate it will be completed by the end of the month.

“To avoid disrupting town centre traffic, we can only do this work at night time, and it needs to be done when the weather is warmer and drier.

“We’ve just been through the wettest February on record with cold night time temperatures which has prevented us completing the work.

“Unfortunately we can’t enforce parking restrictions in this area until all the required signs and lines are in place, but in the meantime we would appeal to motorists to park responsibly, considerately and safely.”
