Willingdon Community School sent a letter home to parents today (June 24) informing them of a confirmed case of covid-19 within its ‘key worker provision’.

The news comes after pupils at Cavendish and Ocklynge schools were told to self-isolate after a child tested positive for the virus.

However, the letter from Headteacher Emily Beer says there is ‘no need for closure’ because the individual has not been on site during the potential infectious period.

She said, “We wanted to reassure you by sharing the guidance that weʼre now taking to make sure our community remains safe.

“Since our decision to immediately shut the Key Worker provision on Wednesday, June 24, Public Health England have told us, based on the evidence presented, that there actually is no need for closure.

“The individual has not been on site during the potential infectious period. Therefore, none of our students or staff need to self-isolate in this instance.”

The school says it will be carrying out a routine deep clean in adherence to official guidance and will be reopening its doors to the Key Worker provision on Monday, June 29.

“We appreciate that this is a difficult and worrying time, and we would like to thank everyone for their continued support. We will continue to keep you updated if there is any further information to share.”
