PICTURE GALLERY: Starlight Stroll along Eastbourne seafront for St Wilfrid’s Hospice

More than 500 walkers took part in the socially distanced Starlight Stroll walk in aid of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

This year’s event took place over an entire day to help maintain social distancing.

Walkers registered in one hour time slots throughout the day, using a contactless registration system. Their route took them from Treasure Island along the seafront towards the Italian Gardens.

At the gardens, each walker had the opportunity to lay a lantern in memory of a loved one before returning to complete their distance.

The lanterns were then transported back to the hospice’s wellbeing garden, lit by GPF productions, before the event concluded with a special online stream.

During the day, Pam Baisden, a hospice patient and Covid-19 survivor, finished the last part of her virtual starlight stroll.

Pam had been taking part in the virtual element of the fundraiser, along with around 40 others, by completing four miles around her local area at her own pace.

Lotti Prangnell, fundraiser at the hospice, said, “Starlight Stroll is a much-loved event for the whole of the St Wilfrid’s community. It is a special event to be a part of and an important fundraiser for the charity.

“The Facebook stream provided a moment of quiet reflection while viewing all the lanterns laid in memory of loved ones. It was a honour to be part of such a special moment.

“This has been the first fundraising event for the hospice since lockdown began, and so far has raised more than £30,000. We are so thankful for the support and generosity of everyone who took part.”

The Facebook Live stream is available on the St Wilfrid’s website click here where you can also donate to help them reach more families and loves ones through their services.
