Phyllis Groves celebrated her 100th birthday on May 7, the day of the General Election, with her son Peter and daughter-in-law Catherine.

The celebration took place at Lade House Residential Home in Eastbourne and was attended by other residents and friends.

Phyllis has always been fond of Eastbourne, having honeymooned in the town in 1940 and spending many happy holidays here and in the surrounding areas.

Phyllis sadly lost her husband of 66 years in 2006 and moved down to Eastbourne and into Lade House five years ago to be near Peter and Catherine, who live in East Dean and are pictured above.

In the past she has been involved in the amateur theatre, was a secretary and her hobbies included millinery, knitting, crocheting, flower making and tailoring.

Phyllis is gifted at drawing and painting and still does the occasional drawing.
