New safe and inclusive sports hub with sensory room is opening in Eastbourne

The centre will support people with disabilities looking to take part and compete in more sport, games and activities.

The Defiant Sports Inclusion Hub, based at Sovereign Harbour, is the brainchild of Eastbourne mum Loretta Lock, 47, and her team.

Loretta set up the community business six years ago after searching for somewhere for her son Callum, who is visually impaired and has cerebral palsy, to play tennis.

Now 23, Callum went on to become a champion tennis player, securing titles in both single and men’s doubles at the National Visually Impaired Tennis Championships.

He has been part of the team setting up the new hub in Eastbourne.

After being delayed by Covid-19 the team are preparing to officially launch the 500 square metre hub on October 31. The facility includes a multi-sports court, community hall, gaming and relaxation lounge and a sensory room.

The launch will involve a family fun day with free refreshments and plenty of socially distanced sports and games.

Power to Change has invested almost £5,000 of the £15,000 refurbishment programme - used to cover running costs and wages.
