Hailsham Twinning Association trip to Gournay-en-Bray in pictures

The members of Hailsham Twinning Association packed their bags and prepared their cameras on a sight-seeing trip to Gournay-en-Bray, Hailsham’s twin town in the north-west of France.

After a 5am start, the 15-strong group bundled into a mini-bus and took the ferry to France. After some lunch, refreshments and a chance to catch their breath, they headed to their first stop: the Pont Du Coq Menerval, a restored 17th century bridge.

The next morning, they visited two watermills, before heading off to Forges-Les-Eaux, a nearby town, for lunch and an afternoon of shopping.

Finally, they stopped off at Le Chateau De Merval, a stately home that’s been converted into a successful agricultural college.

Sunday morning bought more sightseeing delights. The group spent the morning at La Maladrerie Saint-Lazare in Beauvais, a beautiful medieval barn that has since been converted into a performance space, complete with excellently maintained gardens.

Afterwards, the Hailsham Twinning Association took to the historic city of Beauvais, famous for a hoard of high medieval coins known as The Beauvais Horde.

Here, they visited the National Tapestry works, The Terra-Nova photography exhibition, and visited the city cathedral.

This trip, which went on from Friday, September 20 to Monday, September 23, is only one of many arranged by the Hailsham Twinning Association.

In October, for example, the group will return the favour when 12 Twinning Association members from Gournay-en-Bray visit Hailsham for the Hailsham Bonfire Weekend.
