Project manager and co-founder of the charity Sam Buchanan said, “We raise money for local charities and we help local individuals and we try to do as much as we can in the local community.

“I just looked for other ways we could try and challenge ourselves, so to do something different, to think outside the box that nobody else is doing.”

The current record stands at 60 hours but Mr Buchanan and his group are aiming for three days of continuous punching.

The rotation will include 12 people punching for 30 minutes at a time.

Punching counts as continuous if the bag is struck no longer than every three seconds.

Beds are set to be placed in the gym and Mr Buchanan said the group will ‘basically be living there’ for three days although participants will have time to go home for a shower as there will be rest periods of five and a half hours.

In regards to the aim of the world record attempt Mr Buchanan said, “We are trying to raise money to buy a minibus so that when we go and do these charities, everybody can go together.

“We can get all the equipment and stuff in and not only that, for the summer, we are teaming up with the council where we are going to be doing the half term activities and food.

“It is somewhere where we can put all our stuff and our gear and what we are going to do for all the summer months, we are going to different locations.”

The builder said the minibus would be used to go to local parks to give free boxing lessons to people who cannot make it to their George Street gym.
