Six fire engines were called to the scene at about 2.20pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said the cause was deemed to be accidental and linked to work being carried out on the pier.

The fire broke out on a trailer between two buildings on the structure.

According to the fire service, the blaze had been put out prior to their arrival.

Crews damped down and used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hot spots.

It comes almost six years to the day after a devastating fire on the same pier.

Flames tore through the main arcade and destroyed a number of shops on July 30, 2014.

More than 80 firefighters battled throughout the night to extinguish the fire, which police believe was started deliberately.

Like yesterday, the weather was hot and many were enjoying the sunshine on the beach when plumes of black smoke were seen billowing into the sky.
