Eddie Izzard to perform in Eastbourne next month

Actor Eddie Izzard will pay tribute to his former headmaster – and support the arson hit Camilla’s Bookshop – with performances in Eastbourne’s Italian Gardens next month.

A tribute of six performances of Charles Dickens’ classic epic Great expectations will be performed from Tuesday - Sunday (September 15-20).

Mr Izzard, who went to St Bede’s and Eastbourne College and lives locally, said the performances would be a tribute to Peter Pyemont, his former headmaster who died earlier this year, and in support of Camilla’s in Grove Road, which was hit by arsonists earlier this year and where he is a regular customer.

A spokesperson said, “Actor and comedian, Eddie’s career spans both of these with record-breaking comedy tours and critically acclaimed film, TV and theatre performances. But few know it was acting that was Eddie’s first love.

“These preview shows offer the chance to see Eddie as he follows in Dickens’ footsteps with his live performance of the master storyteller’s much-loved classic. A tale of convicts, mystery, friendship, rivalry, unrequited love, revenge and redemption.”

Performances are 3pm daily and tickets are from £35 with customers asked to bring their own blankets.
