Eastbourne’s army training college is celebrating record achievement rates

The Eastbourne Military Preparation College (MPC) is celebrating record achievement rates - above the national average.

The college, at the Army Reserve Centre, provides free courses for anyone aged between 16 and 19.

The college, which prepares young people for life in the armed forces and in civilian careers, has announced a 10 per cent increase in enlistments for the 2018/19 academic year.

It has also revealed that, in 2018/19, 97 per cent of its learners either found employment or progressed to further or higher education – above the national comparative of 85 per cent.

MPCs are funded by the Department for Education and run by instructors who are all ex British Armed Forces personnel.

Chris Padget, Eastbourne centre manger, who served in Kosovo and Northern Ireland, said: “Some learners are focused on a specific role in the military, while others have an aspiration but need further information advice and guidance regarding their options.”
