Sarah Cook, who set up the group called Blooming Bartering, said she wants to ‘rekindle the age old community- spirited nature of bartering’ by encouraging people to borrow, swap and give goods away.

She says bartering is a good alternative to constantly buying new things and adding to landfill.

Blooming Bartering deals with items spanning from food to furniture, and also services like picture framing and decorating.

The only rules the group has is no money; no sex or drugs; and no alcohol or cigarettes for under 18s.

Sarah has set up the Blooming Bartering group on Facebook and people just need to post a description and photo to get started.

She said, “Let’s cut down on waste and safe our bank accounts.”
