Jane Dubery, a trustee of the Seaside Community Hub, said Eastbourne has had a number of pumpkin trails recently and she wants to ‘keep the community momentum going’.

Jane said, “The idea came from a discussion I had recently with some neighbours in Addingham Road.

“We were talking about the NHS rainbows earlier in the year, which was significant for us as in each of our three adjoining houses there is someone who has worked for the NHS - we total 100 years of service.

“We miss the colour that the rainbows brought to ours roads and agreed that in December we would decorate a window so that our neighbours and passersby could enjoy something cheerful.”

From this idea forming - and speaking to mayor Steven Willis and other friends involved in community projects - Jane is now aiming to go bigger.

She said, “I thought - think big - why not try to get all of Eastbourne involved?”

The Seaside Community Hub is backing the idea, and schoolchildren that come to after-school clubs at the hub will be getting creative too.

Jane says the idea is simple and decorations do not have to be complicated.

She said, “I suggest that we use what we already have. Decorations could be as simple as snowflakes cut out of paper or colourful packaging, it needn’t cost anything.

“I haven’t used Christmas in the title as Eastbourne is multi-cultural and there are a variety of celebrations in December, so we can each decorate our windows in a way special to us.

“The idea is to be simple and colourful to cheer us up at a dismal time. It would be nice if we could get shops, particularly the smaller businesses, to join in too.”

Jane has set up a Facebook group called ‘Decorate a window in December’ for anyone that wants to get involved.
