But Sussex did very well in the list, with Brighton ranked fourth, Hastings eighth, and Winchelsea Beach ninth.

Park Holidays analysed key aspects of 80 destinations – including number of fish and chip shops, total number of places to stay within two miles, average rainfall in November, average temperature in November, sunshine hours in November, and beach/water cleanliness rating.

Tony Clish, from Park Holidays, said, “Following the doom and gloom at the start of the year, it’s great to see the increase in uptake when it comes to domestic getaways in 2020, with families, friends, couples and solo-travellers exploring the beauty that’s on our doorstep – even as the colder months creep in.

“Luckily, the British coastline is gorgeous all year round, and, from fish and chips to long walks along the sands, there’s plenty on offer for those that visit.
