Don and Abby, a father and daughter team, have been fundraising for the past seven years and received the invite recently.

Abby went to Costa Rica to do some voluntary work in a local school and came back to Eastbourne and decided to help others in the town.

Her proud dad Don said, “Together, we went along to the Salvation Army and helped served meals to the homeless.

“After a year, we decided to put on our own fundraising event for the Salvation Army. This was an Open Mic night at Bibendum, which was a huge success and led to many more events.”

Don has had lots of help from local businesses and individuals and he and Abby attribute their success to the people that help in making their fundraising plans a reality. This has included arranging two weddings for families suffering from devastating illnesses.

Don said, “Recieving the invite to the garden party at Buckingham Palace was obviously a great honour and Abby and I are very much looking forward to it.”

The pair have many fundraising events planned for this year, including a fundraising concert (see left) on April 4.
