Claremont Hotel in Eastbourne being demolished – in pictures

Today (Friday) Eastbourne said goodbye to the fire-ravaged remains of the Claremont Hotel.

The Grade II* listed building in Grand Parade is being demolished after months of uncertainty over its future. The hotel had been ripped apart by an enormous fire which broke out in November 2019. Ever since, a safety cordon has been in place along the seafront. It had been hoped part of the building could be salvaged, but after Storm Ciara caused huge chunks to collapse this week, the decision was made to take it down over the weekend. When the demolition work is finished, the seafront road should be re-opened to traffic. Read more about it here Watch Claremont Hotel Eastbourne come crashing down
