Joan, resident at Dean Wood Bupa Care Home, was a celebrated dancer in the 1940s. She travelled all over Europe with her sisters, Florence and Mabel Poulton, performing as The Poulton Sisters during and after the war.

Celebrating her 103rd birthday with friends and staff at the Dean Wood care home, she was treated to bucks fizz and her favourite homemade strawberry cake as well as afternoon tea for everyone to enjoy, with happy birthday banners to create a party atmosphere.

Music and dancing have always been her passion and she still enjoys listening to her favourite songs, always tapping along to the tune – reminiscing about her dancing days.

Neil Jenkins, home manager, said: “It’s been an honour to be a part of this incredible lady’s milestone birthday celebrations.

“The team here at Dean Wood, think it’s so important to mark events like these as we continue to help residents live longer, healthier and happier lives – which Joan certainly has.

“The team have gone above and beyond during these unprecedented times. With our residents shielding, they’ve been unable to see friends and family which has been very hard.

“I’m very proud to say that staff have done everything they can to make residents feel safe and supported throughout, while still ensuring we celebrate special occasions.”

Dean Wood Bupa Care Home is a friendly community which welcomes residents in need of residential and nursing care, as well as those living with dementia and Parkinson’s. For further information visit www.bupa.co.uk.
