Batman and Robin – whose alter egos are Alex Rico and John Haynes – wanted to put a smile on people’s faces and raise money for good causes on Saturday (May 16). John, 30, said, “It was a fantastic day. This was about cheering people up.

“All along the route we came across people supporting us, waving and beeping their horns. Even Eastbourne police joined in.

“The best part was people singing the Batman theme tune.”

The pair set off from Old Town at about 8.30am, ran across the downs, along the seafront and back through the town centre, completing the 13.1 miles in just under two hours.

They took on the challenge for two charities which are close to both of their hearts.

The first was NHS Charities together – ‘helping support the NHS during these crazy times’, they say on their fundraising page.

And the second is local charity The Tuesday O’Hara Fund, which supports families through cancer.
