Bandstand in full swing as summer begins in Eastbourne

Eastbourne bandstand is gearing up for a busy month in June.

Alfresco concerts opened at the at the UK’s busiest bandstand in May.

For a touch of vintage nostalgia, audiences can enjoy Big Band Sound concerts on Thursday nights, which pay homage to the iconic musical sound of the 1920’s.

The Johnny Spice Swing Orchestra will kick off big band season on June 25, getting visitors in the swing of things for more concerts throughout July, August and September.

Audiences can dance the night away and celebrate the longest day of the year as world music comes to the Bandstand on the evening of the Summer Salsas. Son Guarachando will perform a lively mix of Cuban salsa, Afro Cuban and Latin music on June 21, leading the way for the regular Sunday night slot.

Phil Evans, Eastbourne Borough Council senior head of tourism and enterprise, said, “As the summer gets well under way, Eastbourne’s Bandstand season gets busier, with June providing 16 concerts for our visitors and residents.

“May has seen a great start to the season, and we’re excited for even more people to enjoy alfresco music in June on the coast of the UK’s sunniest place.”

Heather Peace, previously of Emmerdale and Waterloo Road fame, has now turned to concentrate on her music career and will be in concert in Eastbourne on June 27. With the AEGON International final on the same day, after the intense action on Centre Court, tennis fans can head to the bandstand to wind down by listening to Heather Peace’s soulful acoustic set.

Friday night tribute concerts will see the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Jersey Boys and Elvis all being paid tribute to by well-established impersonating performers. Visit www.eastbourneband for tickets and a full list of concerts throughout the summer.
