Peachy Head shampoo for '˜suicidal hair' is withdrawn from sale
A controversial brand of shampoo has been withdrawn from sale after a social media backlash.
The Peachy Head shampoo for “suicidal hair” was being sold online and in various department stores.
But following on from a backlash on Twitter and Facebook, one of the stores, Urban Outfitters, has withdrawn the product.
Protestors said it was distasteful and particularly as it also made a pun on suicide spot Beachy Head with “peachy head”.
They accused the makers and store of being irresponsible by using suicide as a pun to sell.
The product is made by Anatomicals and its co-founder Paul Marshall confirmed it had been removed from the shelves.
He said, “As always, we closely monitor all feedback, good or bad, and respond accordingly. Peachy Head has been on sale for a number of years now and continues to be loved by many customers.
“That’s not to say we fail to recognise that suicide, and particularly teenage suicide, is a growing problem and we would never wish to be seen as making light of it.”
