A man wearing paint-splattered clothing is being sought by police investigating a serious assault on the outskirts of Eastbourne at around 5.10pm on Tuesday (November 27).

He has been described as white, 6ft tall, in his early 20s and with fair hair. He spoke with a southern accent. His trousers were of a type worn by painters and decorators, and were covered in splashes of paint.

He may also have been wearing a hat with his fringe sticking out beneath it.

The incident, possibly prompted by road rage, happened near the junction of Beaulieu Drive and Adur Drive, at Stone Cross, Eastbourne.

A 29-year-old man suffered facial injuries after being struck and was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital where he was detained for treatment.

The suspect is believed to have been driving a three-door black Ford Fiesta Zetec S, with tinted rear windows.

Officers want to speak to other motorists who stopped in Adur Drive early on Tuesday evening who may have seen what happened or have dash-cam images of the incident.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact Sussex Police online or by phoning 101, quoting serial 998 of 27/11.
