The London Philharmonic Orchestra continues its 2012/13 season at the Congress Theatre with a concert of orchestral favourites on Sunday, January 27 (3pm). Written while the composer grappled with his deteriorating hearing, Beethoven’s classical masterpiece, his Third Symphony, makes an astonishing centrepiece to the afternoon’s concert.
LPO Principal Clarinettist Nicholas Carpenter takes to the stage to perform Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, famous for its use on the Out of Africa soundtrack.
Opening the concert is Mendelssohn’s suitably evocative Hebrides Overture, also known as Fingal’s Cave, as it was inspired by the remote cavern on the Hebridean island of Staffa.
Tickets £12-£28, call 412000.
