Out In The Field (June 29th): Shipwrecked in the line of duty..

IT MAY be just “taxi talk” but rumour has it that Irish golfing hero Rory McIlroy, who was in Eastbourne most of last weekend supporting his ladyfriend in the tennis tournament, was turned away from an Eastbourne golf club.

Apparently, the world number one turned up at a golf club in the town wanting a bit of a knock about while girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki was playing tennis at the Devonshire Park.

He was turned away because he wasn’t a member and ended up instead at the East Sussex National up in Uckfield.

MY, HOW I laughed when I heard about the little feathered friend who was holding up the demolition of the love-it or hate-it Wish Tower Restaurant.

That broody bird, unable to be moved because of wildlife protection laws, has done more to halt work on the controversial building than any campaigners fighting to save it could have ever done. Quackers.

VERY, very occasionally my eyes are a bit too close to my bladder and this week I did the whole blubbering proud mum thing when the Little Princess and her contemporaries from the McManus Academy of Irish Dancing took to the Congress Theatre stage.

The dancers were invited to do a number as part of the Essence of Ireland show which was on at the Congress on Tuesday night. The theatre was absolutely packed to the rafters and all the girls did us very proud indeed.

I WILL be at the Congress myself next week, though thankfully not treading the boards, more behind the scenes. Yours truly has been invited to take part in a burlesque workshop with dancers from the cast of Shipwrecked. According to the brief, it’s fun, exotic and erotic. I am sure it will be great fun – all in the line of duty of course.
