I read with interest from a recent copy of the Eastbourne Herald about the proposed World War II memorial to those who suffered in the World War II bombing in Eastbourne.

I was caught up in the bombing.

After I was released from Eastbourne St Mary’s Hospital, my school friends searched in the wreckage of the shop I was hurled into, and dug out the toy soldiers I lost in the raid and brought them round to my home.

Some with no arms, legs, etc, and other items I lost.

I left Eastbourne after the war for Kent.
