I read in earnest the letter of Hazel Elrick (Herald letters September 25) and would like to add another good reason not to close the Eastbourne Station Health Centre, for it saved my partner’s life.

This is no exaggeration.

Each time she attended her regular medical centre, she raised the same health symptoms and concerns she was suffering with, and was given various reasons for her symptoms on numerous occasions.

Then one Saturday she suffered severe stomach pain. Being Saturday our regular health centre wasn’t open, and we went to the Eastbourne Station Health Centre.

Following the doctor’s examination, the doctor obtained a second opinion, and my partner was immediately referred to the Conquest Hospital that Saturday night. From there an appointment was arranged for her to attend Eastbourne District Hospital as a matter of urgency, which diagnosed inoperable cancer.

However, treatment was arranged for her to have radiotherapy and chemotherapy every day for six weeks at Brighton.

That was six years ago and she is now cured. For this we give thanks to all the staff, nurses and doctors of all three hospitals, for their dedication and treatment.

But special thanks to the two doctors of the Eastbourne Station Health Centre who diagnosed my partner’s problem correctly, and for not to fob her off as she had been so many times before.

Eastbourne Station Health Centre, literally saved my partner’s life.

It’s now time for the people of Eastbourne to speak up for the Eastbourne Station Health Centre as a matter of urgency, and oppose it’s closure.
