Following my letter published December 23 regarding her lack of engagement with Sovereign residents on the cladding issue in the Harbour, our MP and Sovereign Ward Councillor Caroline Ansell contacted me.

I am delighted she has now signed the letter to housing minister Robert Jenrick from the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Leasehold and Commonhold Reform and signed by its co-chairs Conservative Sir Peter Bottomley, Labour’s Justin Madders and Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey.

Mrs Ansell says that she has ‘heard some heart-breaking stories of people in Eastbourne forced to spend their life savings on work to rid the buildings they live in of unsafe cladding, and I think the government needs to do more to help those trapped in what is a major (local and) national issue.’

I am pleased that after my intervention she finally stepped up.

Local residents deserve to be listened to and their issues taken seriously.
