Eastbourne was great - apart from the lack of public toilets!

On Sunday June 21 we decided to visit Eastbourne for the day from Bognor Regis.

The weather was good, people reasonably sensible about social distancing and the four shops where we spent money were all well run.

We haven’t been to Eastbourne for some time and were impressed at how smart the pier looks and also the new paved areas in the town centre.

It didn’t occur to us that the toilet facilities would be so woeful!

There was one WC open on the seafront with a long queue.

How does the council expect families and visitors, who have come to enjoy the beach and surroundings, to spend all day without needing to visit the toilet?

I saw a mum with two young boys getting anxious and she hadn’t even found the one WC open, let alone seen the queue.

There are people who need jobs who would happily manage the WCs – I really don’t understand why the council felt it necessary to shut nearly all of them.

They will put off the day visitors and we certainly shan’t be in a hurry to return.
