Eastbourne students have been hugely let down

From: Josh BabarindeWalsingham Close, Eastbourne

As a graduate of Sussex Downs College (now East Sussex College Group) a few years back, my thoughts have been with A-level and BTEC students in our town. They’ve been hugely let down.

In response to her government’s results fiasco and U-turn, our MP said in the Herald that the ‘problem no longer exists’.

I challenge Caroline Ansell to speak to sixth-form students across our town. If she did, she’d learn that the problem is very much alive and still threatens young people’s futures.

Scores of hard-working students across our town have still had their first choice university places for this year taken away from them. Universities are still pleading for more funding as they valiantly scramble to create new places. Sixth-form schools and colleges made the same appeals for cash in anticipation of part two of this fiasco when GCSE results are released.

In light of her teaching background and government role, I would have expected our MP to be at the forefront of delivering a better settlement for our young people.

Instead, she chooses to dismiss the problems her government have created, showing contempt for young people in our town.

Eastbourne deserves so much better.
