Concern over use of electric scooters in Eastbourne

I have been worried about the number of people riding electric scooters in Eastbourne on the pavements and roads.

These electric scooters are illegal on the roads unless they have been approved and if they were they have been hired from a registered firm, and not owned by private individuals.

The rider must hold a driving licence (unless ridden on private land).

Nothing seemed to be done to stop this. I have seen police cars passing riders and not stopping them.

On December 23 at 10am outside a main bank in Terminus Road about eight police officers were standing around talking.

I went and asked one of officers about this and his reply was “What do you want me to do about this?”

I said “stop them” and again his reply: “At this time do you think that is a priority issue?’’

I said it’s an issue and walked away. What a waste of time

If that the way the local police feels what is the use?

One day one of these electric scooters will ride into someone on the pavement or even cause a car crash.
