Accessibility is the problem in Eastbourne, not disability

From: Brian DaySanta Cruz Drive, Sovereign Harbour

Looking at the proposed plans for phase two of the town centre it is apparent to me that as a result of blocking off both Bolton and Langney Roads and having two way traffic in both of them disabled parking spaces will be at a premium.

None in Bolton Road and, in Langney Road there will be some but placed a minimum of 100 metres away from shops like Marks and Spencer.

It therefore appears that in the eyes of East Sussex County Council disabled people only exist in wheelchairs and the like.

Disabled people with limited walking ability who for example use walking frames or crutches and, if they can park their vehicles, are faced with a walk of 100 metres to get to say M&S and a further 100 metres to get back to their transport let alone walking to and round the shops of their choice.

To qualify for a blue badge applicants are expected to be able to walk less than 50 metres. Disability isn’t the problem accessibility is!

East Sussex County Council and Eastbourne Borough Council please note and take into consideration when final decisions are made for phase two.
