LETTERS: It's not pay, it's patient safety

I had the opportunity, like no doubt a number of your readers, to speak on Tuesday afternoon in Eastbourne town centre with a group of junior doctors from the DGH. I wanted to understand from their point of view the substance of the current dispute. It quickly became quite clear that at the basis of the dispute is patient safety and not pay as keeps being portrayed by Jeremy Hunt and other ministers.

The doctors desire clearly was to be back at hospital administering to their patients rather than standing in the cold either on picket lines or in the town centre. It is obvious that Jeremy Hunt either does not understand the issues in the Health Service (especially as he keeps stating there is only one point of disagreement between the two parties), or is malevolently misrepresenting the junior doctors in the press.

I would encourage any of your readers who have concerns over the Government’s intransigence to convey these views to Eastbourne’s MP.
