LETTERS: Competent and courteous

I wish to convey my appreciation to all the staff involved at Eastbourne District General Hospital and the out of hours service on Saturday, January 2. I had called the 111 service at 6am after a frightening breathing problem which left me with an unexpected pain in the chest. I am a fit 78-year-old. I was advised to attend the DGH at 9am. From 6am to leaving the hospital at 5.30pm I was dealt with courteously, given explanations and re-assured that I was not wasting anybody's time. From the 111 receptionist to the A and E consultant and the 12 other staff involved, people were unfailingly calm and competent despite being very busy. I realise that the real cost of my day must be huge and I am extremely grateful.
