LETTER: Why won't MPs state EU view?

Many voters will understandably still be undecided about how to cast their vote in the upcoming EU Referendum but to learn that our local Conservative Members of Parliament confess to currently having no position or are not prepared to reveal their views on whether to stay in or go, beggars belief. Is it unreasonable for their constituents to expect them to have a clear idea of the benefits or otherwise of membership in order that they might seek guidance from them? As parliamentary candidates they presumably offered themselves for selection to public office on the basis that they were students of politics, knew their own mind and would be eloquent advocates for their beliefs and the interests of their constituents.

That they will not state their position suggests that they are cynically waiting to see how the political cookie crumbles in order to ensure that they are associated with the winning side. Given their equivocation, the general public’s suspicion that “they are all in it for themselves” is understandable.
