LETTER: Transparency over grants

I do feel that due to austerity measures by the government, and even disability benefits threatened, that there should be greater transparency as far as grants are concerned that are issued to various groups by local councils.

I do not consider that Wealden giving grants such as £700 to upgrade a bowling club’s toilets, £863 to a swimming club, and £2,825 to a hockey club to purchase goals is the proper use of ratepayers’ money. The lists of grants given by local councils should be published in local newspapers so residents can see how their money is being spent.
