LETTER: Stop the traffic congestion

As a selfish car driver I want the roads to remain clear and to have free parking in town.

I am, therefore, becoming increasingly worried by the attitude of Wealden District Council towards the 13,000 new homes that are planned near Hailsham.

The developers want to design estates built around car owners. This forces residents to drive to school, shops and work, and will generate even more congestion on the main roads. Since there is no more space for any new roads, I am worried that we will be heading for ‘Carmageddon’.

I note the green ‘eco’ types bleating on about providing safe traffic-free routes and bus lanes as an alternative. Perhaps if these existed it might speed up my car journey?
