LETTER: Spending on what we choose

In reply to Hugh Ball's letter [February 19], to clarify, the £350 million Britain hands over to the EU every week is, of course, our gross weekly contribution as a member of the European Union. Approximately one third of this is returned to us to be spent in areas decided by the EU. At a time of cutbacks across the board, how much better could and should it be if this large sum of money were spent by our own Government as we chose to spend it.
