LETTER: Services we can do without

The attempt by the council to pressure us to vote to sell the downland farms was quite clearly not a great success!

I have a suggestion that I believe would be much more popular, (at least with us residents). Instead of choosing four carefully selected areas to make cuts, I think the council should offer us a full list of everything that our money gets spent on, item by item, with the cost. We could then select the services etc that we’d be happiest to do without.

I’m sure that hidden in dusty corners there are ‘Focus Groups’, ‘Outreach Services’, ‘Managers of Very Little at All’ and Managers of Nothing’, Departments for Circumlocution and Departments for Obfuscation (apologies to Dickens) that we’d manage to live without.

At least then we could be sure that it was our choice, not our ‘servants’ protecting their empires.
