LETTER: Precious time lost to delays

Having lived in Hampden Park for nearly 40 years and being a person who hates to waste time I have probably picked the worst place in the UK to live. Delays at Hampden Park railway gates continue to be a talking point and never more so than now. Always provoking debate and never the solution found. As locals say the joke continues.

Rumours abound that a further two trains every hour will be introduced to the schedule next month. I hope this is incorrect as God only knows what the congestion will then be like.

When Morrisons was built did the road alterations to Lottbridge Drove approaching the roundabout allow for a bus layby? No. So approaching traffic is forced to back up in single line until the bus moves off.

Now another master-stroke, from I suspect the same road layout genius, is the new road markings for the bust stop opposite the new Lidl. This is right at the start of the new central reservation that has been built so when the bus halts at the bus stop right by new central reservation all traffic comes to a halt . Once the bus moves off to its next stop (yes, you guessed it, Morrisions) just 200 yards up the road all the traffic once again comes to a halt and is unable to move until the bus continues its journey. The bus stop at Morrisons has so much pavement space next to it one can only wonder why a bus layby was not provided in the first place when Morrisons was built.

It’s time for one big bus layby to accommodate two buses by Morrisons and help in some very small way the ever-growing problem of the lost minutes, hours, or as in my case weeks over the years of one’s life. That’s along with the many hundreds if not thousands of other people who suffer the one thing Hampden Park is most famous for – the dreaded railway line gates.
