LETTER: Closure blow to club numbers

In September the Herald carried a story concerning the closure of the RVS Centre at short notice, and its effect on the groups and individuals using it.

One such group was Busy Fingers, which met to knit and socialise and consisted of a group of 14 ladies ranging in age from our 60s to our 90s.

We have had a difficult few weeks trying to find other venues to meet at. Either the rents have been too expensive or transport to the venues has been awkward.

These difficulties have seen our membership drop to seven as we tried to meet at various locations in the town centre.

I wrote to the CEO of RVS in August but had no reply to my questions as to how the closure was handled in a scandalous way. I wrote again in October and await a reply.

The RVS attitude does not reflect its logo ‘Together For Older People’.

On a happier note, Karen and her staff at C&H Gabrics have offered us the use of part of the restaurant area for our meetings. We have been made welcome and and are looked after very well, for which we are most grateful.

I hope in time our membership will improve to provide a much-needed social and active gathering.
