LETTER: Attendance is just your duty

I hope that at the planned monthly Seaford Town Councillors' new surgery, at 37 Church Street, the councillors will actually turn up to hear of any problems residents might have. As a member of the public and resident of Seaford, who attends full council and committee meetings, it is well-known that the attendance of some councillors is let down by those who are absent on many occasions '“ and some not even giving apologies. Some do, but there is a lack of any substitute being supplied at committee meetings.

Also committees are made up of 10 members, so when only half sometimes attend, even three on one occasion, this is out of order. To be a councillor you must be dedicated and to be seen at meetings, that includes full council, even if you don’t want to vote on any items you can always abstain. Councillors are custodians of the town of Seaford so please attend.I agree that some reasons for absence are justified but please get substitutes. And in reply to one councillor, I would rather the payment for a by-election be spent so someone would be seen at council meetings if elected. A councillor is not just a name title.
