LETTER: Area is rapidly going downhill

The letter from Danny Sprinks about Hampden Park [February 19] got me thinking. After all we only have four supermarkets in the area so another one is a must despite the amount of vacant shops in the village?

I would have thought, for example, in place of the Co-Op store where The Parkfield pub was homes could have been built. At least we would not have to endure the constant very heavy traffic in Lindfield Road, which in turn is damaging the grass verges leaving it not only dangerous but unsightly.

I have been living here for 21 years and the area is rapidly going downhill. Why are the shops in the village vacant and not being taken up by enterprising businesses? Maybe the rents are too dear – any ideas? I am sorry to be so negative. One good point is Hampden Park. I enjoy walking my dog there on a daily basis and having a coffee in the Parkfield Café and chatting to the other dog walkers. Well done Tony and staff.
