I and many other constituents have been very irritated by letters from the Conservative-led county council on school attendance.

I am all in favour of improving school attendance among children where it is unacceptably low but to send a leaflet out stating that ‘95% is not enough’, telling us to ‘get a grip’ and ‘no excuses’ is disrespectful to parents.

I would like to know how much money has been invested in this publicity campaign by the county council, particularly in light of proposed cuts to libraries, a vital educational resource, and other services.

Perhaps Conservative councillors should have their own attendance of public meetings monitored as many don’t pull their weight, but are instead busy giving themselves pay rises.
