Exhibition organiser seeks new information on the history of Pevensey Castle

English Heritage is gathering new information for an exciting exhibition tracing Pevensey Castle’s history from Roman fort, 1066 and the Norman Invasion, through four medieval sieges to the Second World War when it became a command and observation post.

Wartime alterations supervised by the Ministry of Works included the construction of new blockhouses, anti-tank defences and pill boxes for machine-gun posts that were blended and camouflaged into the old walls and the refitting of the medieval castle towers.

Most of the Castle installations were deliberately left as reminders of the Second World War and this important time in the Castle’s history.

The Castle was used by the Home Guard, British, Canadian and US Army Corps units.

We are seeking information, in particular photographs of the Canadian troops at Pevensey Castle, to use in this new exhibition.
