A DIAMOND Jubilee garden created for Polegate School by Country and Metropolitan Homes has been officially opened.
The homebuilder, which owns the Bluebells development on Dittons Road in Polegate, and Coinford Construction Ltd, who designed the garden, jointly donated £5,000 worth of labour and materials to landscape and create the garden.
The idea arose following initial meetings between the developer and Polegate School prior to the start of construction on the Bluebells site. Three hundred pounds worth of paint was also donated to decorate the school’s corridors.
It was officially opened by Country and Metropolitan Homes’ sales and marketing director, Elaine Dufaur, Bluebells Site manager, Joe Ellson and Coinford Construction project manager, John Kavanagh. The trio unveiled a specially commissioned plaque, which will take pride of place amongst the flowerbeds.
Joe Ellson, site manager at the Bluebells development, said, “As we were building nearby, we asked the school if we could assist with any projects on their ‘wish list’.
“When they mentioned that their garden needed some attention, we thought it would be a great opportunity to give the school and its pupils something they could benefit from and enjoy for years to come.
“Bluebells has proved very popular since it opened and we’re delighted to be able to deliver additional benefits to the local community as well as new homes.
“We’d also like to thank the team at Coinford Construction Ltd, who have all worked extremely hard to help us create a beautiful garden for the children of Polegate School to enjoy.”
The garden is wheelchair friendly and features raised planters that are full of shrubs and flowers also donated by the homebuilder.
Claire Martin-O’Donoghue, headteacher at Polegate School, added: “This was a very kind gesture by Country and Metropolitan Homes and everybody here is delighted with the outcome of their hard work.
“The new garden is a place for pupils to sit and relax, and a fitting way to mark the Diamond Jubilee.”
