A retired Royal Air Force nurse has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Nora Holt, who lives in the Felix Holme rest home in Arundel Road, Eastbourne, had a party with her family to celebrate the milestone.
Nora was born in Essex but trained to be a nurse at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
She then went to India during the war as a nurse in the Royal Air Force. It was then that she met her husband Bill Holt .
Mrs Holt said, “He was serving for the air force and was a long-term patient in the hospital. A nurse should not really have any communication with a patient but that is how we met.”
The couple married in 1949 and had two sons, Richard and Paul, together. Mrs Holt is also a grandmother to three.
The family lived in Zambia, known then as Rhodesia, and Bill worked as a mining engineer and his work often took the family to other parts of the world for short periods of time. Bill died in 1993.
Mrs Holt lived in Silverdale Road and Wilmington Square in Eastbourne before moving to Felix Holme.
