The newly-appointed headteacher at Ratton Academy is to take up his new role three months early.

Huxley Knox-Macaulay – currently Deputy Head at Hove Park School in Brighton – was appointed to replace David Linsell in March and it was expected he would start in September in time for the 2014-15 school year.

But acting head Anne Wardle has announced that he will be leaving Hove Park in time to start at Ratton on Monday June 2, and be at the helm for the final term of the year, until July 23.

Huxley said, “I am excited to be the new head at Ratton and therefore, while it will be very sad to leave Hove Park, at the same time I can’t wait to get started in Eastbourne.

“These are very exciting times for the Ratton Academy – we have the prospect of a new sixth form opening and also the possibility of a new primary school on our site.

“And that’s on top of what we already have – a school judged to be Good by OFSTED, a school which is very popular in the community, and one which we hope to move to Outstanding.”

Departing Head David Linsell left quickly at Christmas to take up a new role with The Kemnals Academies Trust. He was appointed as a regional director but initially appointed for three months as interim head at Weyfield Primary School in Surrey.

Simon Wood was the head but he suddenly left at Christmas. Furious parents started a Facebook campaign to have him reinstated and they made a public vote of no confidence in TKAT. #

Mr Linsell is now understood to have taken up his role as Regional Director.

Peter Lindsey, chair of governors at Ratton, said, “It is great news for the Ratton community that Huxley is joining us three months early. Anne Wardle has done an excellent job as acting head and it is a major boost to have Huxley on board before September.

“June and July will give him time to get himself known within Ratton and the town itself in time for the new school year and the various challenges we will then face.”
