New lifeboat arrives in town

The town’s new lifeboat has arrived at Sovereign Harbour.

The sun shone as crowds of locals watched the Diamond Jubilee come in through the lock, just after 3pm today (May 29).

Bunting and RNLI banners were put up around the railings of the lock at Sovereign Harbour and crowds of people waved lifeboat flags as it arrived in Eastbourne.

It was followed by the old Royal Thames lifeboat and the Newhaven lifeboat. Other vessels also travelled in convoy with the new boat.

There were cheers as Diamond Jubilee came through the harbour gates and the RNLI crew members aboard the new boat waved at the onlookers.
