New house in Eastbourne may have to be demolished

A new home which has been built in Eastbourne without planning permission may have to be knocked down.

Permission was never sought for the demolition of the existing building, used for storage, in Carlton Road and a one bedroom house to be built in its place instead.

Eastbourne council planners recently considered the retrospective application and turned it down.

It means enforcement action could be taken which could see it being demolished.

A spokesperon at Eastbourne Borough Council said the property fails to fit in with the surrounding area and described the house as cramped with a lack of windows in the main living area.

“The dwelling would provide a poor standard of living for future occupants with insufficient space available, poor access to natural light and little or no outlook,” said the spokesperson.
