Moira House Girls’ School has appointed James Sheridan as its new principal.

James succeeded Lesley Watson, who had been principal for the past seven years and is moving with her family to Christchurch in New Zealand.

James joined Moira House this month after having been the headmaster of St Martha’s Independent School for Girls in London since January 2004.

Jill Jackson-Hill, chair of the Moira House School Council, said, “We are extremely pleased to welcome James to the school.

“His reputation precedes him as an experienced people person who is wholly committed to delivering an exceptional education for students and the best working environment for staff.

“We were hugely impressed with the calibre of candidates who applied for this role.

“However, with more than 30 years’ experience in education, we felt that James would be the ideal person to lead Moira House forward into the future.”

James said, “I am delighted to take up the post as principal of Moira House Girls’ School and look forward to building on existing strengths and increasing achievement.

“I would like to thank everyone for the warm and enthusiastic welcome received”.

James grew up in Scotland and then read mathematical sciences at university followed by teacher training.

James then later gained a post-graduate certificate in school leadership and an MA in education.

James has taught in the maintained and independent sectors in both day and boarding schools.

He has significant experience in international education, having spent more than 10 years teaching in the Middle East.
