A secondary school in Eastbourne will change its name later this year.

Bishop Bell in Langney, named after a disgraced paedophile clergyman, is set to become St Catherine’s, which the Herald understands is the preferred name for the Priory Road school.

The school has not confirmed that will become the new name but a meeting is taking place later this month when governors will look at options for a name change.

The Herald revealed in November last year that Bishop Bell was considering changing its name because the senior clergyman it was named after was revealed as a paedophile who sexually abused a young child.

Bishop Bell was named after George Bell, the late bishop of Chichester, who died 57 years ago.
